Patents cover the making, using, selling, and importation of products and methods used to make those products. In a car, there are thousands of parts. Many of them, of course, are covered by patents. Many of them are not. So, before you go and make something, for example, by 3D printing or any other method, it’s necessary to find out if it’s covered by a patent.

And in fact, it may have been covered by a patent, which has expired because it’s more than 20 years old from the filing date. Or because the maintenance fees were not paid, and this is research that must be done.
